There’s a certain kind of low mood that isn’t dramatic or obvious — it’s the quieter kind. The kind that makes you feel heavy, unmotivated, and stuck inside even when a part of you wants to go out and feel alive. I know this feeling well. I’m Saoirse, the founder of DanceSpace.ie, and this blog comes straight from that personal experience.
For years, nothing made me happier than a good dance floor. I loved the energy of a club, the buzz of the crowd, the lights, the music — it always felt like freedom. And because I don’t drink, dancing became my natural reset button. It grounded me, lifted me, and helped me process life in a way nothing else did.
But lately something began to shift. The thought of heading out at 11pm felt impossible. I’d be sitting at home thinking, I want to dance, but I couldn’t muster up the drive to get dressed, go into town, try to find parking, push through the late-night crowds, and wait for the music to get good. I wanted the joy of dancing — not the stress of the night out.
And I kept thinking: Surely I’m not alone in this?
So instead of forcing myself into late-night culture, I decided to use a spark of entrepreneurial spirit and create a new option for people like me. That’s how DanceSpace.ie came to life — a place for high-energy, sober, afternoon dancing with a mix of electronic, club, and R&B tunes designed to shift your mood, brighten your day, and give your nervous system a positive jolt. It’s dancing for real people, with real lives, who want joy without the hangover or the midnight start.

Why Low Mood Makes Going Out Feel Impossible
Low mood doesn’t always look like sadness. Sometimes it looks like wanting to dance but not having the energy to leave the house. It can feel like craving a sense of connection but avoiding the noise of crowds. It’s wanting a night out without the pressure to drink or the overwhelm of late-night environments. It’s being mentally awake but physically tired, or knowing movement would help but not knowing where to go.
The truth is that Dublin’s nightlife can feel intense, loud, and heavily centred around alcohol. If you don’t drink, or if your energy dips in the evenings, heading out at 10 or 11pm simply doesn’t fit your life anymore. But that doesn’t mean you’ve lost the desire to move, dance, or feel alive. It just means the space you need doesn’t exist yet — which is exactly why I created one.
Afternoon dancing is different. It feels lighter and more accessible. You get the joy of dancing, the community, the energy, and the release — but in daylight, without the overwhelm. It’s an easier “yes,” and for many people, that small shift makes all the difference.
The Science: Dancing as a Natural Mood Booster
There’s a growing body of research showing that dancing has a powerful effect on both the brain and emotional wellbeing. Music and movement together help regulate the nervous system by creating a sense of rhythm and flow. Electronic and club music, in particular, often use repetitive beats that make it easier for the mind to settle and the body to relax.
Dancing also boosts neuroplasticity, meaning it helps keep the brain adaptable and resilient. Many participants describe feeling clearer, lighter, or more grounded after a session — that’s because movement stimulates serotonin, dopamine, and endorphins, all of which lift mood and energy naturally.
Vibrational frequencies — especially lower bass tones — activate the body in a way that supports emotional regulation. It’s why you can feel the bass in your chest and why dancing feels like a full-body reset. While dancing isn’t a replacement for therapy when someone needs it, it can absolutely feel therapeutic and support emotional wellbeing in a meaningful way.
This blend of science, movement, and community is the foundation of DanceSpace.ie.
Daytime Clubbing for Real Lives
DanceSpace.ie is for people who love to move but don’t love the late-night scene. It’s for anyone who doesn’t drink and is tired of feeling like alcohol is the centre of every social activity. It’s for people who miss dancing but can no longer face a 1am bedtime. It’s for anyone visiting Dublin and looking for something fun, unique, and not pub-focused.
It’s also for the curious — the people who wonder what sober raving feels like, who want to feel good in their bodies, and who enjoy the idea of doing something joyful and energising during the day. DanceSpace makes that possible without pressure, without alcohol, and without having to wait until midnight to feel the beat drop.

Why DanceSpace.ie Matters (And Why I Built It)
I created DanceSpace.ie because I needed a space where I could dance, feel uplifted, and connect with others without the pressure of nightlife culture. I needed an option that worked for my mood, my energy, my sobriety, and my wellbeing. If you’ve ever felt the same, this space is for you too.
Movement helps. Music helps. Community helps. And doing all of that in an accessible, daytime setting makes it possible again.Whatever mood you arrive in — DanceSpace.ie meets you there.
