“I'd never been here before. In fact, I'm not even from the area—let alone from Ireland. It
was just after 2 p.m. when I stepped into the venue and looked around, trying to work out
where the event was taking place. Then I heard it: the deep basslines drifting up from the
basement. A staircase on my left led downstairs, and on the wall, I spotted a poster for the event that had brought me here: Espresso Rave—an electronic dance immersion in the heart of Dublin. As soon as I reached the lower level, I was greeted warmly at the entrance.

After showing my ticket, I stepped into the room where the party was already in full swing.
The pounding electronic beats, the exposed brick and concrete walls typical of an
underground club space, and the colourful lighting immediately drew me in.”
This was the first coffee rave I had ever attended. Organised by Dance Space Dublin, the
Easter edition of Espresso Rave was something I had been looking forward to for weeks.
Before arriving, I had very little idea of what to expect. Apart from a few clips on social
media, I had no real point of reference. Yet the moment I entered the venue, I was struck
by a familiar club atmosphere: dim lighting, vibrant colours, powerful sound systems, and the lingering traces of previous nights out. The key difference? Nobody was there for the alcohol.
Espresso Rave is a sober dance event, and the focus is refreshingly simple: dancing. For
two hours, people come together to leave everyday stresses behind and immerse
themselves in electronic dance music, movement, and community. Although I arrived on
my own, I never felt alone. Around me were couples, groups of friends, and solo dancers
just like myself. We didn't know one another, yet there was an immediate sense of
belonging. Everyone was there for the same reason—to dance, connect with the music,
and enjoy the experience without sacrificing the rest of the day or evening. The relatively
intimate crowd added to that feeling. Rather than getting lost in a packed venue, people
seemed genuinely present and engaged with one another. Smiling faces filled the room.
To my left, a group of women danced with complete freedom and individuality. From
different corners came enthusiastic cheers sparked by the energy of the music. Across
the room, a man danced with his eyes closed, completely absorbed in the rhythm. There
was something genuinely uplifting about witnessing so many people sharing the same
passion. The atmosphere felt inclusive, welcoming, and authentic. At the same time,
everyone was getting a surprisingly good workout.
For anyone who loves dancing, whether alone or with friends, but has little interest in
staying out until the early hours, I can wholeheartedly recommend Dance Space Dublin's
events. The dedication behind the organisation is evident throughout the experience, and the fact that proceeds supported a charitable cause made participation feel even more meaningful. Espresso Rave offers all the energy and excitement of a club night, without the hangover, exhaustion, or lost day afterwards. It's a simple concept, but an incredibly rewarding one.
